Doubleday to Publish Pelosi

By Rachel Deahl -- Publishers Weekly, 7/19/2007 1:32:00 PM

Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has signed with Doubleday to publisher her memoir. The deal for North American rights was made by Doubleday president and publisher Stephen Rubin, who acquired the untitled work from a trio of the William Morris Agency’s top executives: chairman Norman Brokaw; v-p and co-head of the agency, Jennifer Rudolph Walsh; and senior v-p and president Mel Berger.

The book, which is slated for a summer 2008 release date, will be co-written by an as-yet-unnamed author. The focus, according to Doubleday, will be on Pelosi’s personal and professional life.

The memoir will be published in the summer of 2008 and Pelosi’s collaborator is yet to be determined. Speaking to the deal, Brokaw said in a statement that the chance to publish a book by the first female speaker of the house was irresistible. “When I first met Nancy Pelosi twenty years ago, I could tell she was destined to make history. I told her to start taking notes,” he said.
