What Europeans Want: Extended July International Bestsellers Lists

By Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 8/20/2007 3:34:00 AM

Web-exclusive bestsellers lists from Italy, Sweden and the Czech Republic compliment our print coverage of international bestsellers (France, Spain and Germany are featured in this week’s print issue). Alongside many books Americans have never heard of are a few we can’t seem to forget about.

Hosseini's two books seem to be ubiquitous in Italy--where they hold the #2 and 3 spots on the fiction list--just like they are here. Not surprisgly, a book by the current Pope is in the Nonfiction top three.

In Sweden, it's traveling season: two travel guides hold the #2 and 3 spots on their nonfiction list. At number four is a title familar to American readers: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne.

Fiction readers in the Czech Republic are joining fantasy fans in the U.K. and the U.S. by reading the humorous Terry Pratchett. In Nonfiction, they are once again keeping it practical, with manuals and guidebooks topping the list.
