Mead to Edwards Brothers

David Mead is coming out of retirement to join the book manufacturing company Edwards Brothers as v-p of sales and marketing. Before retiring, Mead was senior v-p of sales and marketing of the Banta Book Group.

Hyde Up at DC

David Hyde has been promoted to v-p of publicity at DC Comics. Hyde, who joined in DC in 2003 and has worked on the house’s campaigns for all its graphic novels, as well as for ongoing periodicals like Vertigo, Minx and others, was assistant director of publicity at Anchor Books before joining DC.

Miller and Bent Up at Trident

Scott Miller and Jenny Bent have both been promoted to the position of v-p at Trident Media Group.

In Memoriam: Mitgang, L’Engle

Book editor Esther Mitgang and author Madeleine L’Engle have died. Mitgang, whose career spanned 31 years as an editor, publisher, designer, packager and indie publisher, died on August 31 at her home in San Francisco.

L’Engle, best known for writing the 1963 Newbery-winning A Wrinkle in Time, died September 6. She wrote more than 60 books throughout her career. She was 89.

Correction:

Random House will be matching employees’ donations to First Book up to $2,500, not the $25,000 reported in last week’s Briefs section.
