Oprah Backs Love and War

Oprah didn’t make a new book club selection on her show today, but she did give strong endorsements to two books. Midway through the show, she told the audience about the Sunday start to Ken Burns’s 7-part documentary The War, strongly recommending that everyone watch it. She also told her studio audience that each of them would find a copy of the companion book under their seats.
At the end of the show, she said, “I’m not choosing this as my book club selection, but all of you should read Eat, Pray, Love” describing how it has become a phenomenon among female readers. She also said that its “rock star author” Elizabeth Gilbert would be appearing on her show on October 5, when the official book club pick is expected to be announced.
