Two Europa Editions Novels Selected as Book Sense Picks

Less than three years into its existence, indie press Europa Editions learned yesterday that two of its fall 2007 titles have been named Book Sense picks. Publisher Kent Carroll was thrilled: “Considering how hard publishers lobby for these honors it is a bit of a coup for a company as young as ours to have a dual selection.”
The books are both fiction paperback originals. The Lost Sailors, a November pick by Jean-Claude Izzo, is a literary novel abou
t the Mediterranean Sea. Izzo is a French writer well known in Europe and is most famous in the U.S. for his crime novels. The Lost Sailors was written in French and translated into English. Broken Colors, a December pick by New Yorker Michele Zackheim, concerns a complex woman artist and was written in English.
Europa Editions was founded in 2005 as the U.S. imprint of edizione e/o, an Italian independent publisher best known for its translated works and Mediterranean Noir mysteries. The U.S. imprint, led by Carroll & Graf co-founder Carroll, was modeled along the lines of its parent company, with about half its list consisting of translations and half featuring English-language originals.
