Just when you thought interest in O.J. Simpson’s If I Did It: Confessions of the Killer was beginning to wane, Blackstone Audio has released the unabridged audiobook on six CDs, running seven hours.
When Regan Books originally pulled and pulped the hardcover, HarperAudio also destroyed the recording of its planned audiobook. When the book was purchased by Beaufort Books, it came with the audio rights.
“The rights were offered to us from Sharlene Martin from Sharlene Martin Literary Management who represents the Goldman Family,” said Anne Fonteneau, retail sales manager at Blackstone Audio. “So, we purchased the rights from Beaufort Books through Sharlene.”
The new audiobook was recorded late-September/early-October with a number of narrators including Kim Goldman. The bulk of the book is read by G. Valmont Thomas and audio veteran Grover Gardner reads the afterword written by Dominick Dunne. Kim Goldman reads the commentary, “He Did It,” and the book’s ghostwriter, Pablo F. Fenjves, reads the foreword he wrote for the new edition.
Blackstone’s initial print run is 5,000 units. “That’s larger than our usual print run,” said Fonteneau. “Unlike a lot of other audio publishers, we do everything in house, so we are more flexible about running new print runs when we need them. We’re currently processing our orders for the title.”
