1. Diary of a Wimpy Kid.

After 6 consecutive months on this list, Jeff Kinney’s hybrid graphic and prose work, Diary of a Wimpy Kid takes over the #1 slot. Abrams publicity director Jason Wells says the publisher plans 5 books in the series, beginning with Diary of Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules in Feburary. In addition the first book will be translated or published into 17 foreign language markets—among them Hebrew, Japanese, Korean, Catalan, Thai and Portuguese.

3. Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born
Stephen King with Peter David, Robin Furth;

Marvel’s comics version of Stephen King’s Dark Tower: The Gunslinger Born is performing like any other King work—it’s selling like crazy. The hardcover comic takes over the #3 slot on the list and Marvel publicity director Jim McCann says the company has shipped more than 250,000 copies.

Natsuki Takaya’s Fruits Basket volume 18 just keeps chugging along, this week taking the #7 slot. Fruits Basket was winner of the best manga award at the 2007 American Anime Awards show and Tokyopop publicity director Susan Hale said in total the series has sold more than 2 millions of copies. The anime of the series was webcast on IGN.com before airing on the Anime Network earlier this year.

8. Vampire Knight, Volume 3.

10. Buffy The Vampire Slayer: The Long Way Home, Volume 1.

Fans of Joss Whedon’s wildly popular (though now cancelled) TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer couldn’t be happier to see the show live on as a comic book series. And they’re showing the love by buying serious numbers of the new trade paperback collection The Long Way Home. Dark Horse says the book has nearly 100,000 copies in print.
