New Deal for Chase Lapine

by Matthew Thornton -- Publishers Weekly, 1/16/2008 12:23:00 PM

New York Times bestselling author of The Sneaky Chef Missy Chase Lapinehas just inked a deal with Running Press for a third Sneaky Chef volume; Jon Andersen and Jennifer Kasius bought world rights from Joelle Delbourgo. The yet-to-be-titled book will feature more family recipes that hide healthful ingredients, especially fruits and vegetables, in popular dishes.

Chase Lapine’s profile was kicked up a notch last fall when readers pointed out similarities between her book and a subsequently published cookbook by Jessica Seinfeld, Deceptively Delicious. The ensuing controversy, in which Jerry Seinfeld appeared on “Late Night with David Letterman” and called Chase Lapine a “wacko,” culminated in a lawsuit filed against the Seinfelds by Chase Lapine last week, citing plagiarism and defamation. Running Press, a Perseus imprint, is thus far not involved in any legal proceedings.

Chase Lapine’s second book with Running Press, The Sneaky Chef: How to Cheat on your Man in the Kitchen, comes out in April. This third volume will publish sometime in 2009.
