Weinstein Books Wins Burana Memoir

-- Publishers Weekly, 3/10/2008

Weinstein Books president Rob Weisbach beat five other publishers for North American rights to Lily Burana's I Love a Man in Uniform. Tina Bennett at Janklow & Nesbit conducted the auction. In this new memoir, Burana, the author of the 2001 Strip City: A Stripper's Farewell Journey Across America, will describe her unlikely personal transformation from authority-adverse, bohemian East Villager with a punk-rock past to army wife and resident of the ultimate conformist community—West Point.

The book will provide a firsthand account of living within the confines of regimented life, as well as recount Burana's loneliness and uncertainty following her husband's deployment, and how she reconciles her own uneasiness toward the war. Burana's story will also resonate “with anyone who has experienced an unexpected ideological shift as a result of a personal relationship,” said Weisbach. Burana's husband, an army lieutenant colonel and veteran of the Gulf War and Operation Iraqi Freedom, is currently on the West Point staff.

Burana is also the author of the 2006 novel Try, published by St. Martin's. Weinstein Books plans a spring 2009 publication, and the book already has a blurb from Diablo Cody, Oscar-winning screenwriter of Juno.
