Nudo Joins Shelfari

David Nudo, who stepped down as publisher of PW in January, has been named director of sales and marketing at Shelfari. Nudo will head Shelfari’s international sales efforts and will also work with publishers to promote their titles on Shelfari. Josh Hug, CEO of the Seattle-based Shelfari, said the site only began accepting advertising in December and has not made an effort to attract publishers’ financial support. “We’ve been focused on building the site,” Hug said, “but we feel the time is right to engage publishers and David is the perfect fit. He’ll help us understand publishers’ needs.” Nudo said he views his role as serving as a bridge between Shelfari and the marketplace, working with publishers to explore ways they can use the site to promote their titles.
Prior to joining PW, Nudo was managing director of book advertising at The New York Times. He will be based in New York.
Launched in fall 2006, Shelfari is an online social network geared to the book community where readers can post, and talk about, the books they have read. It had over 1 million users through the end of 2007. Amazon is one of the company’s financial backers.
