netGalley and Publishers Weekly FAQs
-- Publishers Weekly, 4/28/2008
What was the announcement between Publishers Weekly and netGalley?
PW is the first major review organization to implement netGalley. Publishers will be able to use netGalley to submit their title information and galleys to PW as part of the review process. PW will continue to accept hard galleys and ARCs.
When will PW start accepting submissions via netGalley.com?
Currently, netGalley is running a pilot program with several publishers who are test-driving the netGalley service. netGalley is still accepting selected publishers into the pilot program. If you are interested in participating in the pilot, please send netGalley an email at info@netgalley.com.
When will netGalley be available to the entire publishing industry?
netGalley will be available to the industry at BookExpo (May 2008).
Why would I want to use netGalley to submit to PW?
When you create a "netGalley" for your book and submit it to PW for review you will have online receipt confirmation and can access your book's review status. A "netGalley" record can include additional items with your manuscript; for example, jacket art, audio and video files, and author tour calendars.
You can also expand your book's reach by inviting other reviewers as well as librarians, booksellers, and other media professionals to view your netGalley. If you change or add anything to your netGalley, it will be updated for all viewers immediately, insuring the accuracy of your information throughout the industry.
Is there a cost involved?
The costs are dependent on the number of annual titles published and are a fraction of the cost of producing, packaging, and mailing your galley and marketing materials. Consult netGalley for pricing structure.
There is no cost for individual professional readers to use the service (that means media, journalists, reviewers, booksellers, librarians, educators, bloggers, etc.).
Is PW still accepting physical galley submissions?
Yes! PW will continue to accept physical galleys and ARCs.
What else can I do with netGalley?
Great question, thanks for asking! In addition to submitting your titles to PW for review, you can use netGalley to create lists and securely distribute galleys (and accompanying materials) to other reviewers, journalists, producers, bloggers, librarians, booksellers, educators, etc. By both title and individual, you can allow readers to view your netGalley online, download a protected PDF, and/or request a hard copy galley. You can use netGalley to better manage the costs of producing and sending galleys, catalogs, and materials while significantly extending your reach to more people who can help promote your titles.
