by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 5/20/2008

Authors on today’s Good Morning America:

Forensic scientist and bestseller Patricia Cornwell, whose The Front (Putnam, $22.95; unabridged Penguin Audio, $25.95) pubs today.

Actor Tony Danza, still serving up Don't Fill Up on the Antipasto: Tony Danza's Father-Son Cookbook, (Scribner, $22).

Authors on this morning’s Today show:

Al Roker shared Al Roker's Big Bad Book of Barbecue: 100 Easy Recipes for Backyard Barbecue and Grilling (Scribner, $15.95).

Dr. Nancy Snyderman analyzed Medical Myths That Can Kill You: And the 101 Truths That Will Save, Extend, and Improve Your Life (Crown, $24.95), which comes out today.

On Fox & Friends, Benjamin Nugent introduced American Nerd: The Story of My People (Scribner, $20). PW’s starred review found it a “charming and disarmingly serious study of the history of the 'nerd' in popular culture and throughout modern history… Swinging ably from personal anecdotes to historical perspective, Nugent's exploration of outcasts is a triumph.”

Bob Edwards talked with activist and scholar Bill McKibben, editor of American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau (Library of America, $40). PW starred its review, saying “The book can be read as a survey of the literature of American environmentalism, but above all, it should be enjoyed for the sheer beauty of the writing.”

Leonard Lopate’s guest was Lincoln Chafee, former Republican senator from Rhode Island and author of Against the Tide: How a Compliant Congress Empowered a Reckless President (Thomas Dunne, $24.95).

Diane Rehm interviewed former Republican congressman Mickey Edwards, author of Reclaiming Conservatism: How a Great American Political Movement Got Lost--And How It Can Find Its Way Back (Oxford Univ. Press, $21.95).

Tonight, the National Geographic Channel airs the documentary Left For Dead: Miracle on Everest, based on the experience of Australian climber Lincoln Hall, author of Dead Lucky: Life After Death on Mount Everest (Tarcher, $24.95).

Tavis Smiley talks with Newsweek editor and popular pundit Fareed Zakaria, whose latest is The Post-American World (Norton, $25.95; S&S Audio unabridged CD, $39.95). PW’s starred review found it “a stimulating, largely optimistic forecast of where the 21st century is heading. A lucid, thought-provoking appraisal of world affairs, this book will engage readers on both sides of the political spectrum.”

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
