Harvard Book Store for Sale

by Judith Rosen -- Publishers Weekly, 5/27/2008 12:57:00 PM

In yet another sign of change in the book business, Frank Kramer, owner of 75-year-old Harvard Book Store in Harvard Square, Cambridge, Mass., is putting the two-generation family business up for sale. In a q & a sheet available at the store, Kramer, a former PW Bookseller of the Year, notes that there is no specific time frame for the sale and that the store is profitable. He does, however, allude to the number of nonbook items that Harvard Book Store has begun to stock as a way to counter lost book sales from the Internet and other retailers.

Kramer plans to remain co-chair of Cambridge Local First, an organization he helped found. The sale is being handled by Walter Huskins of Ridge Hill Partners in Needham, Mass.
