What's Inside

by Lynn Garrett -- Publishers Weekly, 6/2/2008

The appetite for new Christian fiction seems to have no end, and publishers are solidifying their positions in the full range of genres the category now embraces. One of the newest trends is the move into the burgeoning YA market. Christian presses are offering alternatives to such popular series as Gossip Girl, with books that deal with the gritty issues today's teens face while reflecting Christian values. Publishers also are meeting the challenge of marketing to the MySpace generation with clever use of the Internet, as well as connecting with parents through more traditional promotion. Finally, the popularity of two genres—suspense and Amish fiction—show two sides of what can attract readers to the category: the hunger for books that mirror the dark side of the real world, and the thirst for simpler and more innocent times. In Christian fiction today, there is truly something for everyone.
