Globe Adds Second Travel Publisher

Judith Rosen -- Publishers Weekly, 6/9/2008 2:29:00 PM

Less than a year after its purchase of Bath, England-based Footprint, Globe Pequot Press (GPP), in Guilford, Conn., announced that it has acquired a second U.K. travel publisher, Compass Maps Ltd., in nearby Winford. “The acquisition of Compass Maps is a critical element in our global strategic plan,” said GPP president Scott Watrous. “We now have two dynamic operations within a few miles of each other.” It also enables GPP to grow its PopOut® Maps brand, which use a patented folding design that enables users to fold and unfold maps in a single movement.

As part of the expansion, Andy Riddle, managing director of Footprint, will assume the additional title of sales director for Compass. Linda Flynn has been promoted to general manager of Compass and will report to both Riddle and Michelle Lewy, senior v-p of sales and new product development at GPP. The Map Group, previously part of GPP parent company Morris Communications’s Morris Visitor Publications, will move to GPP. The group’s president, Lynn Basinger, will add responsibility for custom publishing and sales into the advertising specialty institute market.
