Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:
Novelist Isabel Allende with her second memoir, The Sum of Our Days (Harper, $26.95; HarperAudio CD, $39.95). PW’s starred review declared it a “deeply revealing second memoir… While much of the story is infused with melancholy, her world is by no means without humor, mirth and wisdom. This is a book to savor.”
Physicist Michio Kaku explained Physics of the Impossible: A Scientific Exploration Into the World of Phasers, Force Fields, Teleportation, and Time Travel (Doubleday, $26.95). PW wrote “Science and science fiction buffs can easily follow Kaku's explanations as he shows that in the wonderful worlds of science, impossible things are happening every day.”
Stefan Merrill Block shared The Story of Forgetting (Random House, $25; Tantor Media unabridged CD, $34.99). PW starred its review, saying “this astounding debut captures an air of the fantastical while presenting one family's heartfelt battle with Alzheimer's. The result is a story that's compulsive and transporting.”
Former Nicagaruan vice-president Sergio Ramirez with his new novel Margarita, How Beautiful the Sea (Curbstone, $15.95).
The Colbert Report interviews Internet professor Jonathan Zittrain, author of The Future of the Internet--And How to Stop It (Yale Univ. Press, $30).
On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno: Don Rickles, whose Rickle’s Book (S&S, $14) is recently out in paperback.
Tavis Smiley talks with energy journalist Robert Bryce, author of Gusher of Lies: The Dangerous Delusions of Energy Independence (PublicAffairs, $26.95) PW deemed it an “often caustic and thought-provoking book.”
Darin Strauss visits The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson with his third novel More Than It Hurts You (Dutton, $24.95; Penguin Audio unabridged CD, $39.95), which pubs on Thursday. PW’s review called it “an often satiric page-turner that tracks a Long Island family crisis. The heart of the story — the unraveling of Josh's life and the steady erosion of his faith that ignorance can be a virtue and happiness a choice — is riveting.”
