It’s Official—Bob Woodward Book Pubs September 8, reports HuffingtonPost
Greg Mitchell of Editor & Publisher confirms the pub date, Monday, September 8. Bet the house that Woodward will be on 60 Minutes Sunday, September 7. As of yet there is no title for the S&S tome—which will be embargoed—but Mitchell thinks there may be some explosive allegations that will rock the presidential race
Do Book Embargoes Hurt the Public Interest?, asks Tim Rutten in the Los Angeles Times
Rutten is targeting The Way of the World by Ron Suskind and its publisher, HarperCollins. In his piece Rutten quotes David L. Ulin, the Times book editor, as saying: "embargoes are contrivances designed not to protect the contents of the book but to create a media feeding frenzy when a book comes out. Often, the entire purpose is to protect some kind of exclusive arrangement with a particular news outlet. That’s not about news; it’s about publicity, and it implicates the news media as part of the publicity juggernaut, reducing us watchdogs to lap dogs"
