Wiley has signed a two-book deal with John C. Bogle, investment guru and founder of The Vanguard Group. As he has done with his previous books, Bogle will donate all of his book royalties to charity.
The first book, slated for November 2008, is titled Enough, and was inspired by Bogle’s 2007 Georgetown University commencement address, in which Bogle examined the attributes of a life well-lived and warned about the risks presented by a financial system that, Bogle says, is subtracting value from our society. Joan O’Neil, Wiley executive v-p and publisher, said Enough is, “Jack Bogle’s best book so far, and we anticipate that it will be widely embraced.” The second book, Jack Bogle Speaks, will pub in fall 2009. Additional books will release later, however, no deal has been made yet.
Bogle founded the Vanguard Group, Inc., in 1974 and served as chairman and CEO until 1996 and senior chairman until 2000. He is currently president of its Bogle Financial Markets Research Center. He has written several books on investing, most recently The Little Book of Common Sense Investing, which Wiley published in March 2007 and sold more than 100,000 copies.
