In the second book deal to emerge from the Olympics, following Michael Phelps signing with Free Press for his memoir, men's Olympic basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski has signed to do a book about leadership for Hachette's Business Plus imprint. The house acquired world right from Krzyzewski's agent, David Falk.
Krzyzewski, best known as the coach of Duke's winning college basketball squad, will discuss how he brought together a disparate group of NBA stars to take home the gold in Beijing. The book, which is slated for Spring 2009, will be co-written with his daughter, Jamie K. Spatola.
According to the publisher, which released Krzyzewski's two previous titles (Leading With Heart and Beyond Basketball), the new book will once again draw comparisons to leadership on the basketball court with leadership in the board room. V-p and executive editor of Grand Central and editor-in-chief of Business Plus, Rick Wolff, said the house "anticipates this work to be a meaningful case study in fundamental management techniques, and as with [Krzyzewski's] previous books, transcend the world of sports.”
