Authors on the Air: Oprah on Straying Men; Bush Hearts McCain; religion reporter Gustav Niebuhr

by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 9/11/2008

Today on Oprah, family counselor M. Gary Neuman offers up The Truth about Cheating: Why Men Stray and What You Can Do to Prevent It (Wiley, $24.95; BBC Audiobooks America unabridged CD, $24.95). PW’s review had this to say: “While some wives might find this book helpful, it is perhaps more likely that readers will wish that the author had devoted more time to holding the cheating husband responsible for his actions rather than putting the onus on wives to take preventive—and dubiously effective—measures.”

Veteran political strategist Paul Begala stops by Today, Imus in the Morning and Anderson Cooper 360 with his original paperback, Third Term: Why George W. Bush (Hearts) John McCain (S&S, $15), just out this week.

Good Morning America hosted journalist Jim Sciutto, whose Against Us: The New Face of America's Enemies in the Muslim World (Harmony, $24.95) came out on Tuesday. PW wrote “Sciutto examines and explains the increasingly negative attitudes toward the United States among citizens of Muslim and Arab countries in this deeply insightful book.”

On The Early Show: closet design company founder Melanie Fascitelli, author of Shop Your Closet: The Ultimate Guide to Organizing Your Closet with Style (Collins Living, $19.95).

Diane Rehm interviewed former New York Times religion reporter Gustav Niebuhr, author of Beyond Tolerance: Searching for Interfaith Understanding in America (Viking, $25.95). which PW’s starred review declared “beautifully honors the commitment and care shown by those working on the front lines of interreligious understanding.”

On The Leonard Lopate Show, Benjamin Mee discussed his memoir We Bought a Zoo: The Amazing True Story of a Young Family, a Broken Down Zoo, and the 200 Wild Animals That Changed Their Lives Forever (Weinstein Books, $24.95). PW found it “occasionally charming but overly wordy.”

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
