by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 11/19/2008 8:46:00 AM

Tonight, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart chats with bestseller Jon Meacham, whose new book is American Lion: Andrew Jackson in the White House (Random House, 978-1400063253, $30; RH Audio abridged CD, $39.95).

On Good Morning America: former GMA senior producer Lisa Sharkey and architect Paul Gleicher, authors of Dreaming Green: Eco-Fabulous Homes Designed to Inspire (Clarkson Potter, 978-0307395481, $50), which pubbed yesterday.

Authors on The View:

Actor/comedian Denis Leary explained Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid (Viking, 978-0670031603, $26.95; Penguin Audio abridged CD, $29.95), which came out yesterday. He also appeared on The Bob Edwards Show.

Transgender dad Thomas Beatie, author of Labor of Love: The Story of One Man's Extraordinary Pregnancy (Seal Press, 978-1580052870, $24.95).

The Early Show hosted Maureen McCormick, with Here's the Story: Surviving Marcia Brady and Finding My True Voice (William Morrow, 978-0061490149, $25.95; HarperAudio abridged CD, $29.95), on sale today.

On The Mancow Muller Show, photographer Chris Maynard and travel writer Bill Scheller served up the revised edition of Manifold Destiny: The One! The Only! Guide to Cooking on Your Car Engine! (S&S, 978-1416596233, $14), just out yesterday. PW called it a “humorous cookbook… They teach drivers to view their vehicles in a new way, locating cooking surfaces via the ‘burn your finger’ method of temperature verification. They may even change the way people select new cars.”

The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric hosts Malcolm Gladwell, author of Outliers: The Story of Success (Little, Brown, 978-0316017923, $27.99; Hachette Audio unabridged CD, $39.98). In a PW Signature Review, Leslie Chang wrote “Gladwell once again proves masterful in a genre he essentially pioneered—the book that illuminates secret patterns behind everyday phenomena. His gift for spotting an intriguing mystery, luring the reader in, then gradually revealing his lessons in lucid prose, is on vivid display.” Tomorrow, he’s on Today, Anderson Cooper 360 and The Rachel Maddow Show.

The Colbert Report meets with bestseller Michael Lewis, who explores Panic: The Story of Modern Financial Insanity (Norton, 978-0393065145, $27.95).

Tonight, Tavis Smiley talks with Toni Morrison about A Mercy (Knopf, 978-0307264237, $23.95; RH Audio unabridged CD, $29.95). From PW’s starred review: “Morrison returns more explicitly to the net of pain cast by slavery, a theme she detailed so memorably in Beloved. Morrison’s unflinching narrative is all the more powerful for its relative brevity; it takes hold of the reader and doesn’t let go until the wrenching final-page crescendo.”

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
