Richard Seaver, Publisher, Dead at 82, reports New York Times
Dick Seaver—yes, he was a second cousin of Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver—led an exciting literary life as an editor, translator and publisher. He was instrumental in the literary careers of Henry Miller and William Burroughs. Together with Barney Rosset he brought Samuel Beckett to these shores. I was lucky enough to speak to Seaver three years ago when I was working on a piece about Beckett’s centennial called "Happy Birthday Beckett." Seaver was a delight to speak with, full of anecdotes, literary asides (which I will never reveal), and a love of publishing that is seldom seen anymore. Publishing is going to miss Dick Seaver
