former senior religion editor for Publishers Weekly and founding editor of Religion BookLine, has launched Lynn Garrett & Associates (www.lynngarrettassociates.com), a publishing consulting and editorial services firm specializing in spirituality, religion, self-help and mind-body-spirit books. LGA will provide services to authors and publishers, including concept assessment, proposal production, marketing and publicity, ghostwriting and coauthoring, editing, acquisitions consulting and editorial project management.
The Jewish Publication Society launched its new Web site, complete with a new feature: an interactive timeline, created in honor of its120th anniversary. Says JPS COO and publishing director Carol Hupping: “Visitors can view the exhibit in its entirety or click on any of the 100 individual entries to read and hear more about the people, books, and events that have shaped so much of Jewish culture in this country.” Another feature to be added this spring, is online weekly reading of the JPS Bible, narrated by professional actors. EP Books Inc. is partnering with Greenville, South Carolina-based Revelation Marketing Group to market its book lines throughout the USA. “We are increasing our presence significantly across the USA in the coming months,” said EP’s CEO Graham Hilton. EP Books is based in Webster, New York, but was originally founded in the United Kingdom. Zondervan’s BibleGateway.com, the most widely used Bible-reference site in the world, has teamed with Strang Communications’ Christian Advertising Network for it to be the sole sales agent for ads that appear on the site. Zondervan bought the Web site in October from Gospel Communications. CEO Moe Girkins said its vision for BibleGateway.com is that it become “the premier online aggregator of biblical resources, blending relevant content and community features.” She notes that about 14 million people a month visit BibleGateway.com. More than 80 Bible versions in 50 languages are accessible to readers.
Barbara Schneider-Kempf, director general of the Berlin State Library in Germany, will be a keynoter at the Association of Jewish Libraries annual convention in Chicago in July, 2009. She will present the findings of the Berlin State Library’s study of books stolen by the Nazis and incorporated into German libraries. According to the German newspaper Die Welt, it is estimated that up to 150,000 of the books at Berlin’s Central and Regional Library headquarters are thought to have been stolen by the Nazis from Jews, freemasons, social democrats, and others persecuted under Hitler's regime. A major aim of the new research project is to identify volumes that can be restored to the original owners or their heirs. Kregel Publications is partnering with Fred Rudy of Frederick J. Rudy and Associates to assist in developing and expanding Kregel's international and subsidiary publishing rights management program and the worldwide impact of Kregel books and products. As part of the engagement, Rudy will consult with Kregel management on global publishing strategy and will manage translation, audio, large print, film/video, same language territorial, and special edition rights.
