Magazine publisher Spirituality & Health Media is entering the book publishing world and will officially launch its Spirituality & Health Books imprint at BEA. The company, based in Traverse City, Mich., publishes ForeWord, a trade magazine that reviews independent and university press releases, and Spirituality & Health, a consumer magazine. The nonfiction book imprint will focus on the same kinds of nondenominational soul/body issues covered in the magazine.
Three titles will be published under the Spirituality & Health imprint this year, including The Virtue of Wealth: Creating Life Success the Zenvesting Way by money manager Paul Sutherland, available in a downloadable e-book version March 1, with a June 1 print book release. Heather Shaw, editor-in-chief of ForeWord magazine, managing editor for Spirituality & Health magazine and acquisitions editor for the book imprint, reports that the company hopes to do five releases per year, with two already scheduled for 2010.
“Because we run ForeWord, we think we’re good judges of good books,” Victoria Sutherland, Spirituality & Health Media publisher, said about the new venture, “We know what the trade wants.”
Spirituality & Health Books releases will not be reviewed in ForeWord magazine, though the company intends to aggressively market the list to the trade elsewhere. The publisher will be distributed by Midpoint and will exhibit at Midpoint's booth during BEA.
