In an interview with the Bookseller, Wilson said that she will not be rushing back into children's publishing, and that she needed a “fresh challenge.”
Wilson has overseen the growth of the publishing division, already home to Philip Pullman’s Northern Lights trilogy, partly through the acquisition of prize-winning author illustrator team Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, reshaping the clubs and school book fair business, and developing new business and initiatives, especially with teachers. Through Wilson, Scholastic has played an active and high-profile role in such government reading initiatives as the 2008 National Year of Reading.
Wilson praised the management team and staff at Scholastic, saying, “I couldn’t leave the business in better hands. I know that Alan’s understanding of the businesses is unparalleled and I have every confidence in his leadership.” Wilson also emphasized her excitement about her own plans, which she will reveal shortly.
She joined Scholastic in 2004 from Macmillan Children’s Books, where her publishing successes included Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s The Gruffalo, Meg Cabot’s The Princess Diaries and Frank Cotrell Boyce’s Millions.
