Authors on the Air: The End of Overeating; Either You're In or You're in the Way; Ursula K. Le Guin

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 4/27/2009 8:33:00 AM

Today, both The Early Show and The Leonard Lopate Show hosted Dr. David Kessler, former FDA commissioner under presidents Bush and Clinton, whose The End of Overeating: Taking Control of the Insatiable American Appetite (Rodale, 978-1605297859, $25.95; Rodale Books unabridged CD, $29.99) pubs tomorrow. PW’s review had this to say: “A gentle though urgent plea for reform, Kessler's book provides a simple food rehab program to fight back against the industry's relentless quest for profits while an entire country of people gain weight and get sick.”

Authors on this morning’s Today show:

  • Filmmaking twin brothers Logan and Noah Miller, whose Either You're In or You're In the Way: Two Brothers, Twelve Months, and One Filmmaking Hell-Ride to Keep a Promise to Their Father (Harper, 978-0061763144, $26.99) also pubs tomorrow.
  • Radio talk show host and bestseller Michael A. Smerconish with his latest, Morning Drive: Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started Talking (The Lyons Press, 978-1599215174, $24.95).

Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:

  • Ursula K. Le Guin, whose novel Lavinia (Harvest Books, 978-0156033688, $14.95; Recorded Books CD, $44.95) is newly out in paperback. PW starred its review: “Le Guin's masterful novel gives a voice to Lavinia, the daughter of King Latinus and Queen Amata, who rule Latinum in the era before the founding of Rome. It's a novel that deserves to be ranked with Robert Graves's I, Claudius.”
  • Film historian David Thomson discussed Try to Tell the Story: A Memoir (Knopf, 978-0375412134, $23.95). PW called it a “haunting, eloquent memoir. While following a film critic in the making, we also see the changing cultural landscape of the 1940s and 1950s through his eyes.”

The Diane Rehm Show consulted anxiety specialist Jerilyn Ross, co-author of One Less Thing to Worry About: Uncommon Wisdom for Coping with Common Anxieties (Ballantine, 978-0345503060, $25; RH Audio unabridged CD, $31.95).

On The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet, bestselling Lisa Lillien served up Hungry Girl: 200 Under 200: 200 Recipes Under 200 Calories (St. Martin's Griffin, 978-0312556174, $19.95).

Ellen DeGeneres chatted with Tony Award–winning singer-actress Kristin Chenoweth, whose memoir is A Little Bit Wicked: Life, Love, and Faith in Stages (Touchstone, 978-1416580553, $25; SpringWater unabridged CD, $32.99). PW wrote “Chenoweth has a frenzied, free-associative style; it's as if she's speaking breathlessly into a tape recorder between sitcom scenes. To use her phrase, this book is ‘a hoot and a holler’—a fast-paced frolic that her fans will appreciate.”

On Focus on the Family, bestselling Joel C. Rosenberg goes Inside the Revolution: How the Followers of Jihad, Jefferson & Jesus Are Battling to Dominate the Middle East and Transform the World (Tyndale House, 978-1414319315, $24.99; Brilliance Audio unabridged CD, $29.99).

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
