From all reports, last weekend’s Los Angeles Times Festival of Books was a rousing success. Children’s authors met their fans and signed thousands of books.

Kadir Nelson and Judy Blundell.

David Horvath reads from Bossy Bear.

Eric Carle drew quite the crowd for his reading of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Members of the "Young Adult Fiction: Problem Child" panel: (from l.) Laurie Halse Anderson, Jacqueline Woodson, Suzanne Phillips, Nate Powell and moderator Jonathan Hunt.

Lisa Yee and Mark Teague.

Carle, who was the featured artist at the festival, with a larger-than-life Hungry Caterpillar.

Susan Patron poses for a photo-op with a young fan.

Cornelia Funke and a fan.

Alexis O'Neill with, perhaps, a young recess queen.

Judy Schachner with a masked Skippyjon Jones enthusiast.

David Shannon signs a copy of David Goes to School.

Patrick Carman.

A tent at the festival asked the question, "What are you reading?" and attendees wrote their answers on the tent itself.
