This morning on The Early Show, chef Bobby Flay served up Bobby Flay's Burgers, Fries, and Shakes (Clarkson Potter, 978-0307460639, $25.95). In its starred review, PW declared “Flay makes a simple and wholly effective statement: A cheeseburger with fries and a shake. Done right, it doesn't get much better than that. Another reason why this collection is so satisfying: put the word milkshake in the name of any recipe and there is no turning away.”
Authors on today’s Good Morning America:
- Whoopi Goldberg, whose Sugar Plum Ballerinas #2: Toeshoe Trouble (Hyperion, 978-0786852611, $4.99) pubs today.
- Chef Emeril Lagasse, whose new book is Emeril at the Grill: A Cookbook for All Seasons (HarperStudio, 978-0061742743, $24.99).
- Bestseller Kathy Freston, with Quantum Wellness Cleanse: The 21-Day Essential Guide to Healing Your Mind, Body and Spirit (Weinstein Books, 978-1602860919, $14.95).
The Daily Show talks with Newsweek editor and popular pundit Fareed Zakaria, whose The Post-American World (W.W. Norton, 978-0393334807, $15.95; S&S Audio unabridged CD, $39.95) is just out in paperback. PW starred its review, calling it “a stimulating, largely optimistic forecast of where the 21st century is heading. A lucid, thought-provoking appraisal of world affairs, this book will engage readers on both sides of the political spectrum.”
The View was visited by Donald Trump, author of Think Like a Champion: An Informal Education In Business and Life (Vanguard Press, 978-1593155308, $24.95).
On The Diane Rehm Show: former U.S. poet laureate and Pulitzer Prize recipient Rita Dove, whose third book-length narrative poem Sonata Mulattica (W.W. Norton, 978-0393070088, $24.95) recreates the life of nineteenth-century violin prodigy George Augustus Polgreen Bridgetower. PW’s review had this to say: “Dove tells Bridgetower's story, and some of Beethoven's and Haydn's, in a heterogenous profusion of short poems, some almost prosy, some glittering in their technique. Those who loved her early work may think this book too long: few, though, will doubt the seriousness of her effort, her interest at once in the history of classical music and the changing meanings of race.”
Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:
- World-famous director, composer and conductor Daniel Barenboim, author of Music Quickens Time (Verso, 978-1844672875, $24.95). PW found it a “sometimes electrifying, sometimes pedantic journey through the world of music. Barenboim concludes through these illuminating meditations that the power of music lies in its ability to speak to all aspects of the human being.”
- Playwright and actor Eric Bogosian, with Perforated Heart (S&S, 978-1416534099, $25). PW wrote “Bogosian presents in his Rothian third novel the diaries of a once-prominent author embittered by his declining fame. Richard is a grade-A bastard, and his rise and fall and rise again exemplifies the often arbitrary and opportunistic machinery of the literary world and operators within it.”
- Eminent economist Sir Nicholas Stern discussed The Global Deal: Climate Change and the Creation of a New Era of Progress and Prosperity (PublicAffairs, 978-1586486693, $26.95; Blackstone Audio unabridged CD, $29.95).
- Journalist Eve Pell, whose book is We Used to Own the Bronx: Memoirs of a Former Debutante (Excelsior Editions, 978-1438424972, $23). PW wrote “Though her luxurious childhood is marked by genuine emotional pain, alienation and confusion, most readers will have a hard time empathizing with her personal issues or her upper-class guilt, particularly in the present financial climate.”
Tonight, Tavis Smiley talks with Sam Haskell, author of Promises I Made My Mother (Ballantine, 978-0345506559, $24; RH Audio unabridged CD, $29.95).
Last night, The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson chatted with news correspondent Cokie Roberts, whose We Are Our Mothers' Daughters is recently out in a revised and expanded edition (William Morrow, 978-0061741951, $23.99; HarperAudio CD, $39.99).
Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
