Authors on the Air: The Unhealthy Truth; How the World Makes Love; The Coming Plague

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 5/6/2009 2:40:00 PM

Authors on this morning’s Today show:

  • AllergyKids founder Robyn O'Brien, whose new book is The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food is Making us Sick -- And What We Can Do About It (Broadway, 978-0767930710, $24.95).
  • Ricki Lake and Abby Epstein explained Your Best Birth: Know All Your Options, Discover the Natural Choices, and Take Back the Birth Experience (Wellness Central, 978-0446538138, $22.99). From PW’s review: “Former talk show host Lake, producer of the documentary The Business of Being Born, joins with Epstein, the film's director, to further probe the subject of birth in America. Above all, the authors advocate a safe and empowered birth, whether one chooses a hospital, home or birth center.”

The Morning Show with Mike & Juliet heard from bestselling dumpee Franz Wisner, whose latest, How the World Makes Love… And What It Taught a Jilted Groom (St. Martin's Press, 978-0312340834, $24.95) is a sequel to Honeymoon with My Brother. PW explained “This sequel follows the Wisner brothers on a quixotic search for 'how people in different countries meet, fall in love, have sex.' Both would be of interest to readers searching for love without commitment and a relationship without obligations. Like a television sitcom, this book provides more laughs than wisdom.”

On The Diane Rehm Show: Joshua Cooper Ramo, former foreign editor of Time and author of The Age of the Unthinkable: Why the New World Disorder Constantly Surprises Us And What We Can Do About It (Little, Brown, 978-0316118088, $25.99; Hachette Audio unabridged CD, $34.98). From PW’s starred review: “Ramo pushes the reader into uncomfortable yet exhilarating places with controversial ways of thinking about global challenges. His revelatory work argues that there must be some audacity in thinking before there can be any audacity of hope.”

Leonard Lopate hosted comedian and bestselling author Joy Behar, whose second Sheetzucacapoopoo children’s title is Max Goes to the Dogs (Dutton Juvenile, 978-0525420811, $16.99).

Both Rachael Ray and Larry King Live talk with View co-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck, author of The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide (Center Street, 978-1599951881, $24.99). Tomorrow, she’ll visit Fox & Friends

This evening, The Colbert Report gets Pulitzer-winning Laurie Garrett to discuss The Coming Plague: Newly Emerging Diseases in a World Out of Balance (Penguin, 978-0140250916, $20).

Tonight Tavis Smiley talks with former baseball All Star Darryl Strawberry about Straw: Finding My Way (Ecco, 978-0061704208, $26.99). PW called it “a readable book, though not a probing one.”

Last night, The Colbert Report talked with former Supreme Court clerk Cliff Sloan, co-author of The Great Decision: Jefferson, Adams, Marshall, and the Battle for the Supreme Court (PublicAffairs, 978-1586484262, $26.95).

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
