Today, Good Morning America hosted Maria Shriver, co-executive producer of The Alzheimer’s Project, a four-part HBO television series debuting this Sunday, May 10. The companion book, The Alzheimer's Project: Momentum in Science by John Hoffman and Susan Froemke (PublicAffairs, 978-1586487560, $25.95), pubs next week.
Today met with Leeza Gibbons, co-author of Take Your Oxygen First: Protecting Your Health and Happiness While Caring for a Loved One with Memory Loss (LaChance Publishing, 978-1934184202, $14.95). Tomorrow, she’s on Fox & Friends.
On NPR’s Morning Edition: eighty-nine-year old Huston Smith, teacher of world religions and author of Tales of Wonder: Adventures Chasing the Divine, an Autobiography (HarperOne, 978-0061154263, $25.99).
Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:
- Ayelet Waldman, whose Bad Mother: A Chronicle of Maternal Crimes, Minor Calamities, and Occasional Moments of Grace (Doubleday, 978-0385527934, 24.95) is just out this week. PW called it “18 rather defensive essays. Her determinedly frank revelations are chatty and sure to delight the online groups she frequents.” Tomorrow, she appears on Today.
- Frank Partnoy, with The Match King: Ivar Kreuger, The Financial Genius Behind a Century of Wall Street Scandals (PublicAffairs, 978-1586487430, $26.95). PW starred its review, calling it “a thrilling account of the grandfather of all Ponzi and Madoff schemes. Partnoy achieves a nuanced portrait of the charismatic and corrupt financial genius whose advice was sought by Herbert Hoover and other heads of state. A fascinating depiction of a man and his era, this book is a snapshot of a time all too familiar now.”
CNN’s The Situation Room interviews veteran Mideast correspondent Neil MacFarquhar, whose book is The Media Relations Department of Hizbollah Wishes You a Happy Birthday (PublicAffairs, 978-1586486358, $26.95). In its starred review, PW said “This excellent book emphasizes questions Arabs ask themselves. MacFarquhar's approach is well-rounded; he includes less palatable facts and facts often overlooked.”
Authors on tonight’s Tavis Smiley:
- Patti Davis, daughter of Ronald and Nancy Reagan, with her new book The Lives Our Mothers Leave Us: Prominent Women Discuss the Complex, Humorous, and Ultimately Loving Relationships They Have with Their Mothers (Hay House, 978-1401921620,$14.95). PW found it “a cross between reaffirming self-help book and candid women's narrative, with individual daughters' stories creating a kind of collective memoir. The voices of the daughters, now seasoned with age, contemplation and perspective, are reaffirming in their own right.”
- Dr. Walter Earl Fluker, executive director of Morehouse College's Leadership Center and author of Ethical Leadership: The Quest for Character, Civility, and Community (Fortress Press, 978-0800663490, $25).
Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
