Starbucks Picks 'Crazy for the Storm'

By Lynn Andriani -- Publishers Weekly, 5/14/2009 7:35:00 AM

The next selection in Starbucks’s book program will be Crazy for the Storm: A Memoir of Survival by Norman Ollestad, which Ecco will publish on June 2. The book tells the tragic story of the pivotal event of Ollestad’s life: an airplane crash into the side of a mountain that cost three lives, including his father's, in 1979. PW called it “an inspiring, fascinating read.” The book will be offered at more than 7,000 Starbucks locations in the U.S.

Ecco president and publisher Dan Halpern said, “I’m ecstatic that the good people at Starbucks not only saw the beauty and importance of this book, but committed to it from the very beginning.” Starbucks v-p of brand content Chris Bruzzo said Starbucks looks for “ well-written, thought-provoking pieces that spur conversation. Crazy for the Storm is the right book for right now. Ultimately, it’s a story about a father and a son, and that makes it a perfect gift for Father’s Day.”
