Authors on the Air: The Skinny; Colm Toibin; Reynolds Price

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 5/18/2009 10:21:00 AM

Today on Good Morning America, Dr. Louis Aronne delivered The Skinny: On Losing Weight Without Being Hungry-the Ultimate Guide to Weight Loss Success (Broadway, 978-0767930390, $24.95).

Diane Rehm hosted Colm Toibin, whose newest is Brooklyn: A Novel (Scribner, 978-1439138311, $25; Blackstone Audiobooks CD, $29.95). In a PW Signature Review, Maureen Howard wrote “Colm Toibin's engaging new novel will not bring to mind the fashionable borough of recent years nor Bed-Stuy beleaguered with the troubles of a Saturday night. Toibin has revived the Brooklyn of an Irish-Catholic parish in the '50s.”

Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:

  • Walter Kirn, whose Lost in the Meritocracy: The Undereducation of an Overachiever (Doubleday, 978-0385521284, $24.95) pubs tomorrow. Tomorrow, he visits The Colbert Report.
  • Award-winning novelist Reynolds Price, with Ardent Spirits: Leaving Home, Coming Back (Scribner, 978-0743291897, $35.00). From PW’s review: “Although the detail can be tiresomely meticulous, Price, as usual, powerfully articulates the strength of memory in shaping our lives and gracefully draws us into a literary life lived fully.”

On The Glenn Beck Show: bestselling Joel C. Rosenberg, author of Inside the Revolution: How the Followers of Jihad, Jefferson & Jesus Are Battling to Dominate the Middle East and Transform the World (Tyndale House, 978-1414319315, $24.99; Brilliance Audio unabridged CD, $29.99).

Tonight, Tavis Smiley meets with foreign policy expert Richard Haass, author of War of Necessity, War of Choice: A Memoir of Two Iraq Wars (S&S, 978-1416549024, $27). PW considered it “a combination of memoir and analysis on two wars that, he says, began in 1990: Desert Storm, the response to Saddam Hussein's invasion of Kuwait, and the 2003 invasion of Iraq.”

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
