Authors on the Air: Larry King; Happy Birthday, Shakespeare’s Sonnets! Christopher Buckley
Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 5/20/2009 2:28:00 PM
This morning, Today interviewed talk show host Larry King, whose new book is My Remarkable Journey (Weinstein Books, 978-1602860865, $27.95; CD, $34.95). (And yes, last night he discussed the book on Larry King Live.) Tomorrow, he appears on both The View and The Daily Show.
NPR’s Morning Edition marked the 400th anniversary of the publication of Shakespeare’s Sonnets with biographer Clinton Heylin, author of So Long as Men Can Breathe: The Untold Story of Shakespeare's Sonnets (Da Capo Press, 978-0306818059, $24).
Last night, Charlie Rose had a conversation with Christopher Buckley about his new memoir Losing Mum and Pup (Twelve, 978-0446540940, $24.99; CD, $34.98).
Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:
- Historian Simon Schama discussed his new book The American Future: A History (Ecco, 978-0060539238, $29.99), which PW’s starred review deemed a “lively meditation on American history. He's alive to irony and hypocrisy in the American story… but Schama is optimistic that the nation's perennial openness and complexity can see it through the storm clouds ahead.”
- Tony Horwitz, author of A Voyage Long and Strange: Rediscovering the New World (Henry Holt, 978-0805076035, $27.50; RH Audio abridged CD, $31.95). In a PW Signature Review, Robert Sullivan called it “a history-fueled, self-imposed mission of rediscovery, a travelogue that sets out to explore the surprisingly long list of explorers who discovered America, and what discovered means anyway.”
- International lawyer and law professor Philippe Sands, whose Torture Team: Rumsfeld's Memo and the Betrayal of American Values (Palgrave Macmillan, 978-0230614437, $16.95) is just out in paperback.
This evening on The Colbert Report: Seth Shostak, senior astronomer for the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence Institute and author of Confessions of an Alien Hunter: A Scientist's Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (National Geographic, 978-1426203923, $27). PW’s starred review considered it “written in clear, logical prose, with many analogies to everyday life that simplify the discussion. Covering topics from signal processing to feature films, should entertain a broad audience.”
Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
