Authors on the Air: The Hunger; Olive Kitteridge; After Etan

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 5/22/2009 3:18:00 PM

Today on The Early Show, restaurateur John DeLucie experienced The Hunger: A Story of Food, Desire, and Ambition (Ecco, 978-0061579240, $23.99).

Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show:

  • Elizabeth Strout with her Pulitzer-winning novel Olive Kitteridge (Random House, 978-0812971835, $14; Brilliance Audio unabridged CD, $36.95). From PW’s starred review: “Thirteen linked tales from Strout present a heart-wrenching, penetrating portrait of ordinary coastal Mainers living lives of quiet grief intermingled with flashes of human connection. The collection is easy to read and impossible to forget. Its literary craft and emotional power will surprise readers unfamiliar with Strout.”
  • Emmy-winning TV newsmagazine producer Lisa Cohen, author of After Etan: The Missing Child Case that Held America Captive (Grand Central Publishing, 978-0446582513, $25.99). PW wrote “As true crime, this tragic tale is a standout, and Cohen, though no prose stylist, does a creditable job telling it.”

Authors on tonight’s Tavis Smiley:

  • NBA Hall of Famer and bestseller Bill Russell, whose latest, Red and Me: My Coach, My Lifelong Friend (HarperCollins, 978-0061766145, $32.99), is his homage to Red Auerbach.
  • Religions scholar and Islam expert Reza Aslan explains How to Win a Cosmic War: God, Globalization, and the End of the War on Terror (Random House, 978-1400066728, $26; RH Audio unabridged CD, $35).

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.

Booksellers can order these titles through Ingram at ipage .
