Authors on the Air: Senator Byron Dorgan; The Marriage-Go-Round; Right on the Money

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 5/26/2009 11:19:00 AM

Authors on today’s Diane Rehm Show:

  • North Dakota senator Byron Dorgan, whose Reckless! How Debt, Deregulation, and Dark Money Nearly Bankrupted America (And How We Can Fix It!) (Thomas Dunne Books, 978-0312383039, $24.99) pubs today. PW’s review called it a “scathing indictment of the Bush administration and the excesses of big business and corporate gluttony during the past eight years. Readers who can wade through his rehashing of wrongdoing will find his practical solutions persuasive and in alignment with the new administration.”
  • Johns Hopkins University sociologist Andrew Cherlin hopped aboard The Marriage-Go-Round: The State of Marriage and the Family in America Today (Knopf, 978-0307266897, $25.95). PW wrote “While Cherlin delineates the stress points created by the conflicting values of marriage and individualism, he offers few suggestions for dealing with the problems identified.”

Authors on today’s Bob Edwards Show

  • Bestselling Ruth Reichl, whose new book is Not Becoming My Mother: and Other Things She Taught Me Along the Way (Penguin, 978-1594202162, $19.95; Penguin Audio unabridged CD, $24.95). PW’s starred review promised “Reichl has created a masterful portrait of a mother-daughter relationship that will resonate with readers across generations.”
  • Neuroscientist Dr. Richard Restak, author of Think Smart: A Neuroscientist's Prescription for Improving Your Brain's Performance (Riverhead, 978-1594488733, $25.95; CD, $29.99).

This evening, Sean Hannity talks with televangelist Pat Robertson, whose new book is Right on the Money: Financial Advice for Tough Times (FaithWords, 978-0446549585, $22.99; Hachette Audio abridged CD, $22.98).

Tonight, Tavis Smiley re-airs an interview with world-renowned neurosurgeon Dr. Keith Black, chair of the department of neurosurgery at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and author of Brain Surgeon: A Doctor's Inspiring Encounters with Mortality and Miracles (Wellness Central, 978-0446581097, $24.99). PW’s review had this to say: “Introducing the reader to his colleagues and patients, Black tours the interior of the brain with detailed accounts of delicate surgical procedures… Black is equally skilled as an author, alternating incisive writing about incisions with his personal memoir, insightful and inspirational.”

Yesterday on the Today show, registered dietitian and TV chef Ellie Krieger served up recipes from The Food You Crave (Taunton Press, 978-1600850219, $28).

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
