Authors on the Air: The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane; Charlie Todd; Eduardo Galeano

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 6/10/2009 2:37:00 PM

Today, Good Morning America hosted Katherine Howe, a descendant of women who faced the Salem witch trials and author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane (Hyperion/Voice, 978-1401340902, $25.99; HarperAudio CD, $39.99). From PW’s review: “While the twisty plot and Howe's habit of ending chapters with cliffhangers are straight out of the thriller playbook, the writing is solid overall, and Howe's depiction of early American life and the witch trials should appeal to readers who enjoyed The Heretic's Daughter.”

On Today, Charlie Todd began Causing a Scene: Extraordinary Pranks in Ordinary Places with Improv Everywhere (William Morrow, 978-0061703638, $19.99).

On The Brian Lehrer Show, Claire Shipman of ABC News and the BBC's Katty Kay explained Womenomics: Write Your Own Rules for Success (HarperBusiness, 978-0061697180, $27.99; HarperAudio unabridged CD, $34.99). From PW’s review: “Filled with pragmatic and optimistic steps, this book will inspire readers to set in motion a flexibility-driven business revolution that can benefit all women and men, families and workforces.”

MSNBC’s Morning Joe talked with Neil MacFarquhar, author of The Media Relations Department of Hizbollah Wishes You a Happy Birthday: Unexpected Encounters in the Changing Middle East (PublicAffairs, 978-1586486358, $26.95). From PW’s starred review: “While a glut of recent books on the Middle East have addressed Western perspectives on the region, this excellent book emphasizes questions Arabs ask themselves.”

On The Bob Edwards Show: acclaimed Uruguayan writer Eduardo Galeano peered into Mirrors: Stories of Almost Everyone (Nation Books, 978-1568584232, $26.95). From PW’s starred review: “Across disparate civilizations and centuries — but always with an unflinching eye (and irony) trained on the present — Galeano's stories register the imaginations of our mythmaking species, the elaborate gestures of (gendered) forms of power and the spirit of rebellion and resilience that fires the underdog masses.”

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
