Random House Audio/Listening Library is on a mission to raise awareness of audiobooks around Orlando, Fla. Its Listen Up, Florida! regional summer marketing campaign encourages people to listen to audiobooks during their summer vacation drives. Focused in the Orlando Metro area, it began on Memorial Day and will run until Labor Day. The campaign includes ads on billboards along Interstate 4 in Orlando, local radio spots, and print ads in the Orlando Sentinel, Winter Haven News Chief and New York Times Book Review.
Random is also working with bookstores across Florida to place shelftalkers (left) and displays in stores promoting audiobooks. A website, www.listenupfla.com, has clips of featured audiobooks and offers each visitor free downloads of Louis L’Amour’s Merrano of the Dry Country, Mary Pope Osborne’s Magic Tree House #1: Dinosaurs Before Dark and a story from Rick Riordan’s The Demigod Files. The site also has visitors’ information on Florida and links to local weather and traffic.
Random is also running a Fantasy Road Trip Contest, where teenagers can create videos based on an imaginary road trip with characters from fantasy series by Libba Bray, Tamora Pierce and Rick Riordan. Three winners, selected by the authors, will receive an 8GB iPod Touch and a collection of signed audiobooks.
