Authors on the Air: Wildflower; The Peasant Prince; Joe Scarborough

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 6/11/2009 2:22:00 PM

Today, Good Morning America talked with Vanity Fair contributing editor Mark Seal about Wildflower: An Extraordinary Life and Untimely Death in Africa (Random House, 978-1400067367, $26), a biography of naturalist Joan Root. PW declared “Seal's effort is a seamless story redolent with adventure, passion and heartbreak; its beauty nearly eclipses the tragedy of Root's untimely — and unsolved — death in 2006.”

The Diane Rehm Show interviewed prize-winning journalist Alex Storozynski, author of The Peasant Prince: Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the Age of Revolution (Thomas Dunne Books, 978-0312388027, $29.95). PW wrote “Readers of military and American history should take note: the minute details will enthrall devotees. Casual readers will benefit from Storozynski's expert crafting of a readable and fact-filled story that pulls readers into the immediacy of the revolutionary era's partisan and financial troubles.”

Authors on The View today:

  • Actress Melissa Gilbert, with her new memoir Prairie Tale (Simon Spotlight Entertainment, 978-1416599142, $26).
  • Talk show host Joe Scarborough, author of The Last Best Hope: Restoring Conservatism and America's Promise (Crown Forum, 978-0307463692, $26; RH Audio abridged CD, $35).

On The Bob Edwards Show, public radio reporter Matthew Algeo recalled Harry Truman's Excellent Adventure: The True Story of a Great American Road Trip (Chicago Review Press, 978-1556527777, $24.95). PW found it a “fascinating reconstruction of Harry and Bess Truman's postpresidential 2,500-mile road trip. With deliberate detours, this book is a portal into the past with layers of details providing unusual authenticity and a portrait of the president as an ordinary man.”

Tonight, Tavis Smiley talks with Emmy- and two-time Peabody Award-winning talk show host Larry King, author of My Remarkable Journey (Weinstein Books, 978-1602860865, $27.95; CD, $34.95).

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.

Booksellers can order these titles through Ingram at ipage .
