Authors on the Air: Reaching the Animal Mind; Vin Scully, Unwrapped; Love is a Verb

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 6/16/2009 2:58:00 PM

Today, Good Morning America consulted no-punishment animal trainer Karen Pryor, author of Reaching the Animal Mind: Clicker Training and What It Teaches Us About All Animals (Scribner, 978-0743297769, $25).

The Bob Edwards Show huddled with sports author Curt Smith, who discussed Pull Up a Chair: The Vin Scully Story (Potomac Books, 978-1597974240, $29.95).

Diane Rehm interviewed intelligence historian Matthew M. Aid, author of The Secret Sentry: The Untold History of the National Security Agency (Bloomsbury, 978-1596915152, $30).

This evening, The Daily Show meets with Tom Folsom, producer of television documentaries and author of The Mad Ones: Crazy Joe Gallo and the Revolution at the Edge of the Underworld (Weinstein Books, 978-1602860810, $24.95).

On The 700 Club, bestseller Gary Chapman discusses Love is a Verb: Stories of What Happens When Love Comes Alive (Bethany House, 978-0764206740, $13.99; Christianaudio Seed abridged CD, $24.98). PW wrote “Those who have read and applied Chapman's 'love languages' to their lives will find inspiration; newcomers to Chapman's work will find that love takes on many forms and is worth the effort.”

Tonight on Tavis Smiley: celebrated songwriting duo Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller unleash Hound Dog: The Leiber & Stoller Autobiography (S&S, 978-1416559382, $25), which PW called a “sprightly memoir. There's not a lot of deep insight into the creative process — the authors seem to have written most of their songs on 15 minutes' notice — just vignettes from pop music's giddy youth, short and sweet and catchy.”

Yesterday on The Leonard Lopate Show, Oxford University historian Alistair Horne painted a portrait of Kissinger: 1973, the Crucial Year (S&S, 978-0743272834, $30), just out this week. PW said “Horne presents a busy snapshot of America's controversial superdiplomat in this admiring biographical study. His is a simplistic, unreflective account of Kissinger's place in history.”

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
