Authors on the Air: The Game On! Diet; Satchel; American Passage

Compiled by Diane Patrick -- Publishers Weekly, 7/2/2009 5:57:00 PM

Today on Good Morning America : Grey's Anatomy executive producer Krista Vernoff and Body-for-Life million-dollar champion Az Ferguson, authors of The Game On! Diet: Kick Your Friend's Butt While Shrinking Your Own (Harper, 978-0061718892, $14.99) which is just out this week.

On Today, bestsellers and DIY duo Stephanie Glakas-Tenet and Julie Sussman tackled Dare to Repair, Replace & Renovate: Do-It-Herself Projects to Make Your Home More Comfortable, More Beautiful & More Valuable! (Harper, 978-0061343858, $16.99).

Authors on today’s Leonard Lopate Show :

  • Boston Globe reporter Larry Tye, whose Satchel: The Life and Times of an American Legend (Random House, 978-1400066513, $26) is the first biography on Satchel Paige, the premier pitcher of the Negro Leagues. PW said “This is the definitive biography of a black showman-athlete, and as Tye makes the case, one of the finest pitchers ever, who finally was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971.”
  • Law professor Robert Glennon discussed Unquenchable: America's Water Crisis and What To Do About It (Island Press, 978-1597264365, $27.95).
  • Six-foot-three essayist Arianne Cohen handed down The Tall Book: A Celebration of Life from on High (Bloomsbury USA, 978-1596913080, $20). PW’s review had this to say: “Cohen has been frustrated, ever since she was a 5'3' eight-year-old that no one has written a book about tall people. She fixes that problem handily with a guide both practical and proud, and with enough self-deprecating humor to charm readers of any height; an ideal gift for talls, their loved ones, and (perhaps) their jealous detractors.”

Diane Rehm met with history professor Vincent Cannato, author of American Passage: The History of Ellis Island (Harper, 978-0060742737, $27.99).

On The Bob Edwards Show, America’s favorite travel guide Rick Steves recommended Travel as a Political Act (Nation Books, 978-1568584355, $16.95).

Due to the nature of live programming, scheduling is subject to change.
