McGraw-Hill Education Reorg Cuts 340

-- Publishers Weekly, 7/17/2009 8:27:00 AM

McGraw-Hill Education is reorganizing its elhi operations in a move that will create four specialized "Learning Solution Centers." The new organization will combine MHE’s core basal publishing operations with its supplementary operation and as a result the company is eliminating 340 positions. Last year, MHE cut a total of 445 jobs. The four new centers are called Intervention and Special Needs; College and Career Readiness; Literacy and Humanities; and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.

The cuts at MHE were the largest part of an overall downsizing by parent company McGraw-Hill Cos. which eliminated 85 jobs in its financial services segment and 125 in information and media. The company is taking a $24.3 million charge in the second quarter to account for the restructuring, including a $14 million write-off at MHE.
