For the second year in a row, the University of Nebraska Press is using Lightning Source to meet demand for a Nobel prize-winner. UNP is the publisher of Herta Mueller’s short story collection, Nadirs and found itself nearly out-of-stock when demand spiked for Mueller’s works after she won the Noble Prize for Literature last week. As of Friday, UNP had 3,000 backorders from customers around the world, a spokesperson said. To meet demand UNP teamed up with Lightning, just as it did last year when another UNP author, Jean-MarieGustave Le Clezio, won the Nobel. New copies of Nadirs began shipping over the weekend. In a statement, UNP said it “will do what is necessary” to meet the demand for the title, using both POD and offset printing
