Rick Riordan’s Next Project: The Kane Chronicles
-- Publishers Weekly, 11/2/2009 8:01:00 AM
With his bestselling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series finished and the 39 Clues (for which he designed the story arc and wrote the first installment) well underway, author Rick Riordan announced his next endeavor this past weekend at the Texas Book Fair.
As with Percy Jackson, Riordan will again turn to ancient mythology—this time Egyptian—in the Kane Chronicles, a middle-grade fantasy series set in modern times. Disney Book Group’s Disney-Hyperion imprint will publish the first book, The Red Pyramid, on May 4, 2010, with simultaneous audio release. In the series, siblings Carter and Sadie Kane, descendants of Egyptian magicians, must defeat the god Set, after the gods are accidentally released in the present.
The Percy Jackson series has sold more than seven million copies in the U.S. to date. The feature film The Lightning Thief, based on the first book in the series, hits theaters on February 12.
