Barnes & Noble Out of Stock on Nook
Barnes & Noble is out of stock on the Nook, a note on its Web site said Friday. The company said that it expects to ship the e-reader the week of January 4 for customers who now pre-order the device. "While we increased production based on the high consumer interest, we've sold out of our initial Nook allotment available for delivery before the holidays," the bookseller said in a statement. Nook gift certificates are available for customers who pre-order the Nook and will be sent before Christmas. Read on »
Little, Brown Gears Up for New Patterson Novel

Initial marketing efforts launching James Patterson’s Witch & Wizard were shrouded by a veil of secrecy. At this year’s BEA, Little Brown kept ARCs under wraps and under lock and key—literally. Now the publisher is keeping anything but mum about the novel, which debuts December 14 with a 700,000-copy first printing. The current promotional campaign entails a number of initiatives intended to spark young adults’ interest in the novel—and to build on the buzz that began last spring. Read on »

Smashwords Adds Kindle Store, Makes Acquisition
A little more than a week after announcing that it will be making its e-books available through Shortcovers, Smashwords said today it will supply e-books to the Amazon’s Kindle Store. Smashwords will begin shipping e-books to Amazon November 25, and expects the books to begin appearing in the Kindle store some time in December. Similar to its deal with Shortcovers, Smashwords will pay authors and publishers 42.5% of the digital list price (set by the author) for book sales through Amazon. Smashwords authors and publishers who already distribute e-books to the Kindle Store can opt-out of the Smashwords-Amazon channel in advance of the November 25 ship date via their Smashwords Dashboard. Cameron + Company Founder Dies, Grandson-In-Law to Continue Business

Just a few months before Robert W. Cameron died in San Francisco November 10 at the age of 98, the aerial photographer who was best known for self-publishing coffee table books dedicated to cities around the world in the Above series, was reportedly hanging out of a helicopter taking pictures for an updated edition of Above San Francisco. That book launched the Above series and Cameron’s publishing company in 1969. Read on »

iMinds in Distribution Agreement with OverDrive
iMinds, which produces eight-minute downloadable audiobooks, has signed a worldwide distribution agreement with OverDrive. Since launching in September, iMinds has had 30 titles in the Top 100 AudioBook charts on iTunes. It has also doubled its catalog to 180 titles; and launched iMinds Juniors (five-minute tracks for children ages seven to 14) and six iPhone apps. Read on »
Obituary: Jim Sutton
A Memorial Service for Jim Sutton will be held Saturday December, 5, at 2 p.m., Christ Lutheran Church, Baltimore, Maryland. A beloved book marketing and sales consultant, Sutton died in Germany after collapsing at the Frankfurt Book Fair. He suffered a heart-attack, never regained consciousness, and died in a German hospice a few weeks later with his wife Ellen Loerke by his side. Robert Allen has been named editorial director at Macmillan Audio. He arrives from Brands-to-Books, an agency he co-founded that develops book and digital concepts to enhance a company's brand. Allen has also worked for Baker and Taylor, in sales at Bantam Doubleday Dell and as v-p and publisher of Random House Audio.
