HarperCollins trade publisher Marjorie Braman won an auction among five bidders with a "significant" six-figure offer for a book with an unwieldy but all-explanatory title: And the Morning No Longer Belonged to God: An Intimate History of the Black Death, the Most Devastating Plague in Human History. It's by freelance writer John Kelly, who has delved deeply into contemporary documents for his narrative account of the plague that decimated Europe in the 14th century, focusing primarily on its ravages in Italy. The world rights sale was made by Ellen Levine at her own agency.
