January Bookstore Sales Jump 12%

Bookstore sales got off to a strong start in 2001. According to preliminary sales estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, bookstore sales rose 12.8% in the month to $1.68 billion. The sales increase was double the gain for the entire retail segment where sales rose 6.3% in January 2001 over January 2000.
