Laughs Big at Warner

by John F. Baker -- Publishers Weekly, 4/16/2001

Warner executive editor Rick Horgan paid handsomely to win world rights in two recent auctions to books by showbiz people with a comic streak. He came up with $1 million to beat out Simon & Schuster for Fran (The Nanny) Drescher'sCancer Schmancer, an account at once poignant, humorous and smart, said Horgan, of her bout with the disease, as well as her adventures in Hollywood. The actress's book jacket value was much enhanced by the bestselling success of her Enter Whining a few years back; Joel Gotler at AMG made the sale. The other Horgan buy, in which ReganBooks came up short, was Vegas comic Louie Anderson's The F Word: How to Survive Your Family, in which the star talks of his spectacularly dysfunctional and multifarious one (he's one of 11 kids). This was a significant six-figure buy from Dean Williamson and David Vigliano at Vigliano Associates.
