LaFarge Returns To Random House

By Calvin Reid -- Publishers Weekly, 4/23/2001

New media publisher Annik LaFarge, formerly senior v-p and e-publisher at Contentville, is returning to the old media as a senior editor at Crown Publishers.

LaFarge is returning to Random House to acquire nonfiction titles in business, personal finance, health, history and current events. She will report to Steve Ross, editorial director of Crown. "Annik brings many unique talents to our editorial team," said Ross.

LaFarge began her publishing career in 1982 in the S&S publicity department. She later moved to Random House where she launched the large-print division and was associate publisher of Times Books. At Contentville, she launched Contentville Press, an imprint specializing in print-on-demand and electronic publishing.

E-publishing Will Continue

David Kuhn, editor-in-chief of Contentville, told PW that while the company was not immediately hiring a replacement for LaFarge, "we will continue to run the e-publishing program." Kuhn said, "She established something that keeps humming along. Our e-publishing program will continue with the people who worked along with Annik."

He specifically mentioned Heather Byer, executive editor; Peter Costanzo, director of book marketing and merchandising; and Catherine Seda, director of contracts. "Heather handles acquisition, Peter's title says what he does, and Catherine handles a lot of the business side," said Kuhn. "Annik did a lot of things around here that will be farmed out to others. These three will continue the program, and there will be more news to come."
