New Author Initiatives Set

Staff -- Publishers Weekly, 4/30/2001

The traditional author autographing sessions held during BookExpo America will be loosely grouped by genre this year, in order to give booksellers and other attendees the chance to plan their day around meeting particular authors. Children's book authors will be featured on June 1 at 10 a.m. in the autographing area, followed by mystery writers at 1 p.m. and women's fiction authors at 3 p.m. Autographing on June 2 will begin with health and wellness authors at 10 a.m., while nonfiction writers will be featured at 1 p.m. At 3 p.m. BEA will have a salute to independent publishers that will also feature Latin American writers.

An all-day conference entitled "How to Create & Market a Mega-Bestseller" will be held June 1. Speakers scheduled to appear are Mark Victor Hansen, co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series; literary agent Jillian Manus; author Robert Allen; and Rick Frishman, president of the book publicity firm Planned Television Arts.
