Woods Catches 'Cold'

by Daisy Maryles -- Publishers Weekly, 5/7/2001

Cold Paradise, that is. The 21st mystery/thriller by bestselling veteran Stuart Woods—and the seventh to star cop-turned-PI Stone Barrington—was published by Putnam on April 23 (copies in print: 170,000). Considerable print and media coverage is being tied in with the author's current 14-city tour, on which he's "received a tremendous response thus far," according to Penguin Putnam publicist Carolyn Stewart. Woods sold over 100 books at each of his first four signings (Vero Beach, Fla.; Manchester, Ga.; and two stops in Atlanta) and took part in two panels at last month's L.A. Times Book Festival. The author, whose first novel, Chiefs, was a 1981 Edgar Award winner (and highly successful TV miniseries), recently was awarded France's Prix de Literature Policiere for Imperfect Strangers. His 2000 bestseller, The Run, is returning to our mass market list for its fifth week; the March HarperTorch release boasts 680,000 copies in print.
